MELOMAKARONA

Greek honey cakes!



INGREDIENTS:

4 c. farina or flour
1 c. oil
1 c. butter
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. warm honey
2 jiggers brandy
juice and rind of 1 orange
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking powder

Work flour with oil and butter until creamy. Add the
sugar, honey and the remainder of the ingredients. Work the
dough with the hands to make a smooth dough (about 20 minutes).
Roll with hands into balls the size of an egg and flatten on 1
side. Bake on a greased baking tray 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
As soon as they come out of the oven, dip in a hot honey
syrup made with 1 cup of water, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup of water.
Leave the cookie in the hot syrup for 3 minutes. Drain and
sprinkle with chopped walnuts, if you wish.
